Surface Retarders and Bond Breaker

Cormix surface retarders and bond breakers control set time and prevent unintended adhesion, ensuring precision finishes and efficient element separation on site.

Surface retarders delay the initial set of the concrete skin, allowing the upper layer of paste to be washed away and exposing aggregate for decorative or slip resistant finishes. Bond breakers are applied to casting beds or form faces to stop two concrete elements from bonding, enabling clean separation of precast panels or tilt up slabs. Cormix supplies both water based and solvent based grades, formulated for stable performance in hot or temperate climates.

Key Features:

  • Controlled depth of retardation for uniform exposed aggregate texture
  • Reliable, stain free bond breaker film that prevents patchy adhesion
  • Spray, roll, or brush application with rapid drying for fast production cycles
  • Options with low VOC, non staining pigments, and easy visual inspection
  •  Compatible with steel, timber or plastic formwork and reusable casting beds

Typical Applications:

  • Architectural exposed aggregate facades, kerbs, precast cladding
  • Slip resistant paving blocks, walkways, bridge decks
  • Tilt up and precast panel yards requiring clean lift off and minimal patching
  • Double lift sandwich panels or sequential casting where separation is essential
